Play allows for students to express themselves freely and release negative energy in a positive way. Students with appropriate amounts of vigorous physical activity have better transitions, are more engaged in academic activities, and are not as likely to participate in poor behaviors. Successful play leads to success in many forms which is why it is so crucial for children. I work in a school that is majority people of color and low income families. The behavioral problems that stem from systemic equity gaps affect my students directly, which is why they have such a strong need for healthy play. Play works best when it is clearly organized and there are many options for how to play. The equipment I am requesting will allow for our playground to be better organized as well as give my students more freedom for how they wish to play!
