Having quality materials and enough supplies to create in all content areas is critical - it allows students an outlet for frustrations, they take pride in how their differing abilities are being rewarded, and bring community together as we all have something to add. Displaying these items with honor and in a manner fitting to the effort it took to make the project shows how much we value all academic efforts. Not only do we display student work in the school, but we are hosting a “Night of Artistry” which we hope to make an annual event where student work will not only be showcased, but students will present and share their ideas. These connections between school and home not only provide motivation for students, but also work on listening and speaking skills, especially presenting findings and using multimedia. According to understood,org, “Partnerships between schools and families can improve students’ grades, attendance, persistence, and motivation… Although some families proactively engage in their child’s education, research shows that teachers can initiate and encourage engagement from all families with positive results.” Your generous support of our project will go a long way in helping students get creative, find joy in school and connect to their families and the community. We are seeking the supplies necessary to create and display student work. Speaking and Listening Standards (SL 6–8 5) Integrate multimedia and visual displays into presentations to clarify information, strengthen claims and evidence, and add interest. Thank you for supporting the students and families of our middle school.
