Our classroom is full of students from every background, but most do not have access to basic necessities that make them successful in the classroom. Most students do not even come to class with a pencil or paper. Some of the standards allow for students to use calculators, but they do not have access to calculators besides the calculators found on their cellphone, which we do not permit them to use during class. There are interactive notes that the students enjoy, but most do not have a composition notebook to past their notes down to use for later. The storage bins will be utilized to organize their notebooks and textbooks since our school does not have lockers for students to use. Your donation will go a long way for students who are unable to afford these basic supplies that will help them become successful.
They are a fun-loving group of students who want to succeed, but struggle with the burdens of everyday life. If given the tools needed to be successful, I know that they can reach their goals. These materials will help us in all areas related to sixth grade math including the Number System (NS), Ratios and Proportional Relationships (RP), Geometry (G), and Statistics and Probability (P). It will also help with the eight mathematical practices which include
1.Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.
4. Model with mathematics.
5. Use appropriate tools strategically.
6. Attend to precision.
7. Look for and make use of structure.
8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
