The Nevada Academic Content Standards for 8th grade math of the number system, expressions and equations, functions, and statistics and probability will be met with this project. Students will use the Carnegie curriculum and Math 360 on whiteboards to learn with, and need calculators in order to complete many of the upper-level math problems they will be presented with. My students have struggled to learn during distance and hybrid learning, and being able to utilize a calculator will help to close those learning gaps that were created during the pandemic. Our calculators will allow for students to not only practice solving problems for my class and prepare for our state test but also serve as tools to increase my students' technical abilities and math fluency. Our calculators allow students to visualize data, graph lines, and simplify complex operations. These abilities can translate into many growing career fields and help students build financial literacy as they become more comfortable using their calculators to perform the necessary calculations for their tax returns and future investment positions.
