More than ever, I am seeing the need for differentiation in my classroom, and the resources I am requesting as a part of my "Theater Design Unit" will create opportunities for just that. COVID-19 literally separated us for so long, and the theater class is a space that thrives on connection. I believe this connection is one of the beautiful things about my subject, but I also know it can be intimidating for some students still developing and exploring certain social emotional skills. COVID-19 halted the development of those skills, and I know that asking some students to stand in front of their peers and perform something for a grade can be scary. My proposed "Theater Design Unit" will create opportunities for students to express themselves in ways that feel safe to them while still achieving standards within my content area. Theater is not simply performing, but designing, crafting, writing, and exploring. My "Theater Design Unit " will provide me with the resources needed to teach new standards and meet students where they are at. By donating to my project, you will provide students with differentiated opportunities to learn and thrive in new Theater standards, while also deepening their understanding of certain social emotional skills.
