The Fastener Gauge has everything to do with connecting parts together. But there are many fasteners to choose from. Each size bolt actually has two different thread pitches. This is the number of threads per inch. For instance, 1/2 inch bolts come in 13 threads per inch (coarse) and 20 threads per inch (fine). This project will let you distinguish between the two. Not only is this a great project to get a young engineer started, but will provide a lifetime of use. Something that can be handed down from generation to generation. The base will be made of oak wood (we already have this). We will use our industrial laser to perform two functions. First, we will engrave all the different size bolts and thread pitches and even add a small ruler. Then we will cut out 24 different wholes to put the bolts into. The student will first draw these plans in AutoCAD(our computer drafting program). Finally, we will stain the project so it looks not only professional but something that can last a lifetime.
