Social and emotional learning resources allows students to take charge of their emotional functioning and identify their wants and needs when in crisis. During times of crisis, students will often seek social and emotional support from school staff. Currently my students are working to identify and understand their emotions and how those emotions impact their daily learning. Making sure students are able to identify when they are angry or sad drastically impacts their ability to implement appropriate strategies to resolve conflict. I have noticed that students that are able to self identify their emotional states, can often resolve their conflicts with learned social and emotional strategies. My students are noticeably more engaged in classwork and less disruptive of their peers when they are given adequate social and emotional learning strategies. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional social and emotional learning resources to implement in times of crisis. The social and emotional learning games will engage in the students in identify their emotional states. These will be extremely beneficial for students that struggle to self identify their emotional needs. The sensory toys will enable students to release unwanted anxiety without disruption of instructional time. I have seen how social and emotional learning can enable a student to self advocate for their emotional wants and needs and hope that the additional resources will help us grow even more!
