The COVID pandemic along with school closures has changed the way students learn. Coming from their home environment back into a traditional classroom has been difficult for students, especially in the younger grades.G Providing students with a guided reading set is an effective strategy that will help students strategically focus on the specific reading skills they need to show growth, success at their grade level, and close the achievement gap created by the pandemic. Small group instruction is key to help close the achievement gap that the pandemic has caused and providing students with the right learning environment will be key to their success! In addition, the books and bins I have selected will help the students in grade 3, specifically focusing on the Reading Literature standards- R.L.3.1, R.L.3.2, R.L 3.3, as well as the Reading Informational standards- R.I,3.1, R.I.3.2, and R.I.3.3, which focus on asking and answering questions in a text and being able to retell stories and identify main ideas. The color printer for this project will help with printing engaging and interactive activities for small group instruction, including small anchor charts that students can print and add to their reading journal as reference and support during guided reading. A color printer can provide students with the needed activities, discussion cards, and printable learning mats to support mastery.
