As a speech-language pathologist at the high school level, pragmatics is a huge aspect of therapy. Building relationships between peers and staff is essential to an enriching learning environment. Covid-19 has significantly impacted student's social skills and comfortability opening up to others. Creating a safe space for student's to engage with others is important for their well being as well as participation in therapy. Resources such as fidget toys and games create a stressfree and fun environment that facilitates natural conversation and social situations. Decor and lighting contribute to making the student's feel safe and help students with sensory needs. My goal for my project is to create an environment for students of all walks of life and ability to come learn and connect with others. Covid-19 has impacted students socially and emotionally. Creating a sensory safe, lgbtq friendly, engaging environment promotes vulnerability and natural communication to help students improve their social communication.
