I would like to diversify my small library collection by adding more poetry books. I found that many students are interested in poems and gravitate towards them because they are simple to read, easy to understand, and requires less time to finish. Students have also told me they like poetry books because they are very therapeutic and relaxing. There is no pressure to finish the book or to understand the story line. They can start anywhere in the book and skip around if they want to. As students begin to grapple a new norm during this pandemic, poetry books provide a great way for students to escape and relax. For students that don't like to read poetry books are a great way to encourage reading and promote literacy skills.
