My students are tiny people with big personalities. They are funny, kind, creative, and eager to learn. My kiddos love books and I am currently hoping to greatly increase their access to literacy materials. I want to create a library that has meaningful books representing their backgrounds and the backgrounds of others in the world around them.
Books can spark a child's imagination, teach them about the world around them (as well as fantastical worlds that could be), and support their language development. I want to add to their classroom library and create a section of books that can be borrowed for students that do not have many books available in their homes.
A second component I wish to add to my classroom is more mindfulness/self-regulation tools. In preschool, learning is partially about academics and partially about developing social-emotional skills. Mindfulness practices, such as deep breathing and yoga, can help reduce students' stress levels, give them the tools to regulate their emotions in a productive way, and also increase their focus. A rich library and more mindfulness resources will help my students to grow both academically and socially-emotionally.
