Reading "Born, A Crime" by Trevor Noah, will impact my students in many ways. Trevor talks about his experiences growing up in South Africa during the end of Apartheid, starting off with very little to becoming a famous comedian, and just how he was able to navigate through tough times. Our country now is experiencing a tough time with race relations, gun control, police brutality as well as many other issues. Reading this book as a class will allow us to approach these issues in a safe environment. This will also give my classes a way to practice how to talk about uncomfortable situations in a respectful manner.
