The items that I have chosen for the students will help build their socializing skills, as well as communicate with each other. These skills are really lacking from the students being quarantined and staying at home without access to materials and students to play with. The students at my elementary school are mostly English Language Learners, and having strong communication skills is very important to their academic success. Social-Emotional Competencies like responsible decision making, relationship skills, social awareness, self-awareness, and self-management are a focus at our school this year and in the years to come. Working on puzzles is working not only on communication skills but solving problems. Reading and sharing multi-cultural books to discuss and share not only about their own lives but also the lives of others around them. Creating and designing art activities gives them a way to express themselves.
