Dexcom G6 is a continuous glucose monitor that allows for live glucose monitoring. This eliminates the need for multiple finger sticks per day to check for glucose. The iPod touch will be an age appropriate device to allow her to connect to wifi/bluetooth to store all her health information to the cloud. The iPod touch will automatically connect to her Dexcom monitor and her glucose numbers will be shared with her family, healthcare providers and I, school nurse to ensure she is safe. The goal is to maximize her time in the classroom and cut down on frequent unnecessary nurse visits due to her glucose numbers not being in range. As the school nurse, I will be able to monitor her highs and lows right from my office and intervene quickly and safely. It is amazing to see how far and advanced technology has come but most importantly how it can serve to save a life. Please help me give this student an extra tool to support her learning, her time in the classroom, and age appropriate independence in learning to manage/advocate her health.
