Students will be learning the rules of different board and card games and how to play during their library classes, and they will then have time to play with their classmates. Play is a fundamental part of learning for kids and allows them to safely work on social skills, communication, critical thinking, and failing all while having fun. Allowing students time to play also reduces stress and anxiety that comes with being in school. Through playing games, students will have to think critically, communicate with their group, and overcome failures in order to win or finish the game. These skills are fundamental to being a successful learner. Often times, students are asked to do these while also learning content, but they are not given the chance to practice and hone these skills on their own. Playing games takes the pressure content off and allows them to just work on these fundamental skills in a fun and engaging way.
