I teach in a small elementary school in NH. We have 3 Autism classes, and I teach the 1st & 2nd graders. It is often hard to reach the Autistic learner,as they have difficulty sitting through a lesson. We have found that having the students watch instructional videos is a great activity. It is called video modeling (where a video is taken of someone doing the skill taught). The students love to watch the videos and stay focused for the whole learning session, practicing the skills taught and don't even realize that they are learning. We have been using a handwriting DVD that has increased my students ability to write legible letters, and they love doing it.
