Students come to class with a lot of their needs unmet. To start, they complain about bad drinking water quality, subpar breakfasts, having to pay for period products, and not having enough money to buy their own supplies. COVID has really hurt the students families financially so these supplies will help them feel safe at school and also give them the supplies their parents couldn’t afford. When they walk into class, they should feel safe enough to ask for help. Since it is my first year teaching, I am trying to gather enough products to help me have a successful year and also give them what they need to succeed. Something as simple as access to pencils, a fan, and notepads can drastically improve their determination to do work. The specific standards addressed this year IS l.9-10.4, RL.9-10.2, RL.9-10.5, RI.9-1.1, and W.9-10.9
