I am writing to you today about your Lego Arts. My students love doing these. They have already completed World Map, Sith, Mickey Mouse, and Iron Man combining them as the ultimate sets. I am currently finishing up the Beatles. The students do theses on their own, with little help from staff. These are a few of the benefits that Lego Arts provide for special needs children: • Encourages Sharing, taking turns, and social skills • Learn to reason and problem solve • Teaches patience, persistence, focus and concentration • Encourages creativity • Improves and develop fine motor skills and dexterity by strengthening muscles in hands, which helps with writing, grasping • Encourage collaboration, teamwork, and cooperative play • Structure and following instructions • Math: counting, 1:1 correspondence, volume, quantity, symmetry, and patterns. • Works on Visual-spatial skills • The following of instructions, deciphering order, understanding quantity, symmetry, patterns, and location of the bricks, helps children to develop on their mathematical skills and spatial awareness and encourages them in developing how to problem solve • Art: color and shapes • Socialization and communication skills • Sense of accomplishment • Arts and crafts • Introduce sensory children to textures and colors Playing with LEGO can have a calming and relaxing effect and can be helpful for children with disabilities who may have anxiety or worries. Playing and creating with LEGO can bring a feeling of order to a chaotic or stressful day and can have huge therapeutic benefits.
