I have chosen materials based on the CASEL framework in all five areas self awareness, self management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making. These books are to be used with k-5. In addition, I choose resources to help students learn how to have a growth mindset. Each book will be used to counsel students individually, for classroom lessons, and in small groups where students need additional support. The learning materials will help students describe their complex emotions, and learn to have empathy for others. Social emotional learning is essential and is linked to higher academic achievement. Students can not learn if their SEL needs are not met. Covid has created many additional challenges for students and has effected their mental health. This directly effects their learning, and Covid has already put students behind academically.
