Many students at our Title I school can't afford simple school supplies like highlighters or notebook paper. By helping students with these basic needs for their classes, students will be better prepared for success without the stress and financial strain of having to secure their own supplies. We use notecards to make vocabulary flashcards, lined paper for writing and analyzing prose passages, and sticky notes allow students to make notes in the novels they read without marking up the books. Highlighters help students mark up passages that have been copied for them, and the giant sticky note pads allow the students to make anchor charts and posters to present their work. All of these supplies individually might not break the bank, but when added together (often multiplied by more than one child), it can become expensive for our parents.
