Language learning happens in naturalistic and unstructured settings and opportunities. Providing unstructured activities to pair with structured, direct instruction support continuous language learning and development. Having materials that are fun and applicable across many different groups creates efficient and beneficial speech therapy which leads to progress! I have purchased numerous adapted books targeting core vocabulary, early language concepts, and symbolic identification/representation, but do not have enough supplies to create the materials to utilize in my sessions. The printer will allow me to create customized, color adapted books for the students to use in school and for take-home practice with parents. All materials listed can be used to target core vocabulary paired with symbolic representation to further support non-verbal and limited verbal students participation and understanding across all settings. Early language skills such as categorizing, identifying functions of items, and classification of different items are necessary skills and precursors for students who might require speech generating devices in the future. Targeting these skills with hands-on activities will be engaging and naturalistic with the fine motor skills activities and early language concepts activities. Turn-taking, sharing, and engagement with peers will support the growth of meaningful relationships many students missed during remote learning.
