I teach at a Title I school, which means that sometimes my kids & their families can't afford the basic necessities. This project proposal aims to set up an area within my classroom in which students can engage in self-expression through Cricut design, art and music. I am requesting resources to support students’ social, emotional, and mental well-being as the impacts of interrupted learning as a result of COVID-19 are becoming more apparent every day. My students have a range of disabilities, such as dyslexia/learning disabilities, behavior disorders, or mental health disorders. It is clear that my students need instruction in social skills. Built within this project proposal is curriculum, a few SEL games and prompts to help develop their social and emotional skills (self awareness, 1B.Demonstrate knowledge of personal strengths, challenges, and potential. Self-management-2C. Demonstrate ability to set and achieve goals for success.) I am requesting a small cricut machine and desk which will provide space in my classroom for creativity once students complete their academics for the period. When students are working on their independent work or designing Cricut art, one student will be DJ and select school appropriate music to listen to while all students complete work.
