My students have yet to have the opportunity to work with clay when creating in a three-dimensional format. This will be a new and exciting experience for my 7th grade to create, explore, and experiment when creating their artwork. For this unit, the 7th grade will be continuing to explore their identity. Students will be doing this through the lens of community, heritage, and tradition. To demonstrate students' exploration of this topic students will learn traditional clay hand molding techniques. This will provide students with the foundation to create unique works of art. Students will be brainstorming many designs and patterns, each of which will have to be connected to one of our three lenses for this unit. Using these designs students will create a unique clay creation that incorporates each of these patterns alongside traditional clay hand-building techniques.
