Fifth grade is an inflection point in a student's learning. We begin learning how mathematical operations work together and tackle problems that require an understanding of relationships and abstract reasoning. In the earlier grades, students are tasked with completing math problems that are outlined and given to them ready to complete. In fifth grade, students are asked to evaluate a written problem and decide which math functions will be needed and then apply them in a variety of ways. These computer tools will allow me to display abstract problems in an interactive and visual way so that students may develop an understanding of the link between abstract equations and real-life problems. These tools will allow students to see the actual physical problem and relate it to the equations we use.
