My students with exceptional needs are active and curious hands-on learners who need access to a wide variety of hands-on/kinesthetic activities to help them stay engaged and focused on learning the fundamentals of math and reading as well as social-emotional skills. Activities involving building structures such as with the Magna-Tiles are highly engaging to my students and allows them to express themselves creatively. Hands-on activities like puzzles and letter cubes are also popular with my students, such as the alphabet and math-related items on our wish list. We incorporate educational, hands-on activities into our learning centers; small groups of 3-4 students each rotate through 2-3 centers, where we use the "I do, we do, you do" teaching strategy. This is modified as needed for each student's individualized needs. All of our students need help with coping skills and identifying their own feelings, as well as learning how to get along with others The social-emotional learning activity will help them learn what it means to be helpful and compassionate with others in the classroom and community at large.
