With new books such as this one, Wake by Dr. Rebecca Hall, students are able to learn about history from a voice that has laid silent for centuries. Told in the style of a graphic novel, Dr. Rebecca Hall examines the slave revolts aboard the boats bringing Africans to the Colonial shores for slave labor and exploitation. Being able to teach about one of the most marginalized people groups in history from their own perspective with research that spans centuries and continents this book gives this portion of history a voice.
