My name is Jo Kenyon and I am the School Counselor in Las Vegas, Nevada. Our school is comprised of students from diverse backgrounds which includes one hundred percent receiving Free or Reduced Lunch (FRL) and seventy percent classified as English Language Learners (ELL). Social Emotional Learning (SEL) plays a significant role in our educational system and our development in society. Through SEL, students participate in activities which assist in the acquisition of skills and healthy attitudes for interpersonal and intra-personal relationships. Many of which are forged in the school counselor’s office as students build on supporting each other, showing empathy, and making better choices. I write to you in the hopes that DonorsChoose will provide me with the ability to purchase games, activities, and online resources specifically targeted for Social Emotional Learning. When you meet my students and learn about their lives, you see how beneficial and vital this program is to them. Every day, my students face extreme challenges and it is my goal to give them the tools and curriculum to enrich their lives and propel in a direction that positively affects themselves and others.
