Due to the shutdown of schools and students having distance learning they were not given the opportunity to have labs and collaborate with their peers. Science is an integral part of education. It allows them to investigate, problem solve, persevere, be creative, ask questions, collaborate with others, share ideas, and design inventions. Students greatly missed these opportunities. These purchases will allow me to cover the standard 3.-5ETS1.1. Students will first review lab procedures while dissecting the bones of an owl pellet. They will then investigate the parts of a cow's eye. As a class, they will pair up and design a human eye from recycled parts. This STEM activity will cover life science and engineering standards for 5th grade.
