The students have been out for almost two years, which means no science experiments for sixth or seventh grade that has resulted in a learning gap amongst them and their previous peers. The supplies that I requested are for science labs that cover eighth grade standards along with a few seventh and sixth grade standards as well. Flour, oil, salt, water, and Kool-Aid makes playdough and the glue and borax make slime to explore the different types of chemical reactions. MS-PS1-2 Analyze and interpret data on the properties of substances before and after the substances interact to determine if a chemical reaction has occurred. Balloons, pumps, straws, along with the fishing line I have and tape that I've requested is for Newton's Laws of Motion and Gravity; as well as, factors that affect motion like; speed, acceleration, velocity, and momentum., as the supplies I listed are for our Balloon Rocket experiment. MS-PS2-1 Apply Newton’s Third Law to design a solution to a problem involving the motion of two colliding objects. The Slinkys are for a wave experiment. MS-PS4-1Use mathematical representations to describe a simple model for waves that includes how the amplitude of a wave is related to the energy in a wave. The clip boards are so that the students don't have to bring old books outside to write on while collect data from the experiments like; distance and time to calculate the speed when we do our Paper Planes Lab. MS-PS2-4 Construct and present arguments using evidence to support the claim that gravitational interactions are attractive and depend on the masses of interacting objects. These are just a few of the experiments and they actually tie to multiple standards including the engineering ones.
