The instruments that my students have access to are unfortunately limited by district funding, and COVID. Because of COVID guidelines, none of the students are able to play band or orchestra instruments. However- we are able to safely play recorders with playing masks, bell covers, and air filtration. Many students have already learned to play soprano recorder over Zoom this past year, and they are disappointed that they will not get to learn anything else. I would like to change that. I would like to provide my students with the opportunity to play Alto and Sopranino recorder in addition to our district supplied instruments. With the addition of these recorders to our music class, students will be able to have a richer and more well-rounded experience in creating, performing, responding, and connecting to music. Because the Alto and Sopranino recorders require different skills and have different fingerings than the Soprano recorder, having a class set will provide more opportunities for differentiation, group work, composition, and general classroom enrichment.
