The materials I am requesting help us to promote the garden in so many areas. When we have produce from the garden, we are able to learn about how it grows and what role the sun and water plays, especially in the Southern Nevada. We are in Special Education and we use the Nevada Academic Content Standard Connectors for Science. One example, HS-LS1-5, lets us use a model to illustrate how photosynthesis transforms light energy into stored chemical energy. There is no better model than a living garden. It is very difficult at best, to garden in Southern Nevada, and by being able to deliver nutrients to the plants is critical to producing large amounts of fruits and vegetables. One of the additional skills we teach is listening and following directions. The students learn to work and see the "fruits of their labor". With larger produce we also have the opportunity to teach nutritional lessons and introduce students to fresh produce and to find new foods they like to eat. We also send home produce with the students so they can prepare and eat at home with their family. Thanks for your support and help!!
