All of the materials that are included in this project will help structure the reading intervention time of day where students meet with the teacher to have reading instruction provided at their level. This helps close gaps for some students and helps challenge other students to read more difficult texts. While students are not meeting with the teacher, they are engaged in centers where their literacy skills are also being developed. The materials in this project will help better the centers so that no learning minutes are wasted. In order to combat the literacy crisis that the pandemic has worsened, the materials used from this project will provide an opportunity for students to have meaningful work to complete during choice time where their literacy skills are enhanced. Rather than always writing in pencil and paper, students will be able to use whiteboards and markers that help me make on the spot formative observations that guide my instruction and improve their learning when meeting with me in small groups. Students will be able to read books that help them acknowledge their feelings and combat negative self thoughts that the pandemic has worsened. The listening center materials will help students develop a love for reading. Standards addressed: L.2.3 Use knowledge of language and its conventions when writing, speaking, reading, or listening. L.2.5 Demonstrate understanding of word relationships and nuances in word meanings. L.2.5.a Identify real-life connections between words and their use L.2.2 Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.
