My goal is to increase diverse representation in our school library so that many of our books showcase diverse characters and stories so that the school library truly represents the diversity we have here at Beresford. Our school is incredibly diverse, our students come from varied backgrounds and represent various religions, cultures, languages, and beliefs. We need more books that represent and honor their diversity. Students must see themselves and their stories represented in the books that we read. Representation matters. Students need to see books that showcase characters that look like them, explain and represent their beliefs, show their cultural practices, and honor their diversity. These books will help increase diverse representation in the school library and allow all students greater access to high-quality books with diverse characters. This will also allow the students to see the value we place on diversity and provide them a window to the world.
