The proposal is for a self-sustaining junior agriculture program. Over the summer Kindergarten teacher Jennifer Crosthwait and special education teacher Cari Groce developed ideas to design, fundraise and build a chicken coop on the Skyline school grounds. With the principal, Natalie Fluty’s blessing, we set out to find help in securing a coop and fencing. This long-term project would include the care and feeding of animals, raising chickens from the egg stage, gathering and storing eggs and selling/donating eggs. Any profits would go back into the caring and feeding as well as the upkeep of coop. The entire school’s student base and staff will be invited to participate in this agricultural project to help nurture their ability to build relationships, learn life skills and teach responsibility.
