Novel studies are a fantastic way of building students' love of reading with fantastic texts. It helps to build vocabulary skills, critical thinking while building stronger reading skills. My second graders have not had a "normal" year of school since beginning school in kindergarten. It is more critical than ever that we build a love of reading. Novel studies allow students to gain metacognitive skills in which they engage in discussions about what they are reading and their thoughts and ideas about their reading. They also write about what they have learned and connect their reading to their own life experiences. Standards Addressed: RL 2.1, 2.3, 2.5,2.6, 2.10, S.L. 2.1
