While my students are working to overcome the effects of the pandemic, their social-emotional learning has been negatively affected as much as, if not more than, their academic learning. When my students believe in themselves and their ability to do hard things, they can begin to close the gap in their academics. I want to help my students realize their potential with books that will open conversations about their social-emotional health. Every well-rounded child needs physical play, as well. Our classroom needs updated recess equipment. Our current equipment consists of cast-offs that are in poor shape. Because I am only a 2nd-year teacher, I am also needing some basic classroom supplies so that my students and I have the things we need to be successful. Scholastic Storyworks is a resource that engages students in reading to learn essential 5th-grade literacy skills. Getting a classroom subscription would be an exciting resource for us. Also, having additions made to our classroom library of books that appeal to my students will get my students interested and invested in reading so they can reach their fluency goals.
