These items will offer my students the opportunity to develop literacy skills by focusing on specific Nevada Academic Content Standards, such as Reading Literature and Informational Text (developing comprehension of texts. Thank you for providing my students with an opportunity to develop strong reading skills at an early stage in their academic careers Specifically these resources will address : ELA-LITERACY.RL.K.1 - This will promote students with special needs to listen to stories, follow the main idea and setting and sequencing by looking at the pictures in the big books. The big books also prepares the students to answer "wh" questions, a key skills in the primary grades. ELA-LITERACY.RL.K.3 Items will support my students with the ability to support, identify characters, settings, and major events in a story when prompted. The cash register with fake money will introduce the special needs students to recognize the different denominations of money, how to count money by 1's, 5's and 10's. Manipulatives play a very important learning process with special needs children. The big books provide the opportunity to develop literacy skills by listening and retelling a story and multiple comprehension skills. Math manipulatives offer an opportunity to develop math concepts visually and cognitively.
