My project is called, "D.A.N.C.E." to teach my students how to manage their stress and channel it into positive energy. They have suffered much trauma during this global pandemic and need to learn coping skills for their social emotional mental health. The materials requested are to teach students the practice of meditation (meditation cushion for breathing exercises, positive affirmation cards for building self-esteem), aromatherapy: diffuser and essential oils to help calm anxious/nervous students), books, therapy games, sensory toys to teach students lessons such as how to express their emotions/mental state in healthy ways and how to use sensory tools to channel their stress into healthy ways. Also, we need the color laser printer to make "Memory Collage" folders of pictures of my students with their Grief worksheet drawings to help them heal from the deaths that they have experienced during Covid. With all of these materials, I am able to create a safe space for them, knowing that they can come to my office, learn skills to cope with their emotions and also, use these skills in their home as well. Nevada Academic Content Standards for Health: Subject: Health & Grades: PreK-2 & Grades 3-5. Standard 1: 1.2.14: Define safe personal space of self and others. 1.5.3 Describe various physical, emotional, intellectual differences and how they affect a child's overall well-being. 1.5.13: Explain a person’s right to feel comfortable and safe (a) Recognize safe personal space of self and others. (b) Understand the importance of not violating people's safe personal space. Standard 2: 2.5.1: Identify how various sources affect thoughts, feelings and health behaviors. Standard 4: 4.2.1: List healthy ways of communication/listening to express needs, wants, and feelings. 4.5.5 Demonstrate nonviolent strategies to manage or resolve conflict.
