My students will explore how hydroponic farming is changing the way many urban areas are growing fresh vegetables. Students will discover how to cultivate plants in a nutrient-rich solution instead of soil. Because the roots are bathed in a nutrient solution, there is constant nourishment for the plants. Hydroponics makes is possible to grow in locations where poor soil conditions or limited space prevent growing plants traditionally in soil. My students will use journals to identify various types of plants and also use their journals to draw, measure and record their observations with our classroom hydroponic kits.
