Student choice in reading leads to an increase in literacy as well as an increase in writing ability. Studies support that when students read it increases fluency in all subjects. Many high school students do not read enough, but when given choice in reading are more likely to read and read continuously. COVID increased learning loss in all areas, especially literacy, by giving students choice in reading books students get empowered in their own learning. By increasing the choices of novels in the classroom students will increase their skills in reading and writing across the curriculum by offering variety. Student choice empowers student learning.
