Every Friday, my students have the opportunity to visit the prize box based on their classroom behaviors for the week. My students can earn 1 ticket per day and if they have at least 5 tickets at the end of the week, they can visit the PRIZE BOX! The prize box will be filled with different trinkets that the students will enjoy. A reinforcement survey was completed to determine the items that currently motivate my students. These students are motivated by having tangible reinforcement is important for the students in my classroom. We earn prize box raffle tickets daily for meeting goals of learning and work completion. At the end of the week knowing that they are eligible to win something cool from the prize box helps keep them motivated and eager to improve their classroom behaviors. The reinforcement survey showed that the students were motivated by fidgets, nail and cosmetic accessories, the ability to play games while they are learning specific more difficult areas of the curriculum, and free time for work completion with varied games that are not educational. In addition, it has become aware over the last couple months that the increase in sitting still for a task has resulted in increased off task behavior. The wiggly “ants in their pants” sitting for my students has resulted in many tilted chairs and students falling on the floor. I have added chairs that allow for movement in hope of the students utilizing them to stay safe. Finally, I need to be very honest-the ability to not have to spend my own money on decent school supplies such as expo markers, Ticonderoga pencils, and head phones would ease the stress within my teacher mind.
