As a Title I school with a large population of at-risk, low-performing, free and reduced lunch, and transient students, the need to focus on math and language skills is especially keen. We are also reeling from the pandemic, losing 10 weeks to shutdown, then having students go back and forth from distance learning to in person last year and still this year (due to exclusions). Our community still has very low vaccination rates and great resistance to masking, so we have students who have been quarantined multiple times; we don't see this changing soon. As the distance outreach person and safety net for our excluded students, it's my job to provide help and resources and supplemental instruction to them daily while they are out. Our students have a one-to-one device that goes home with them throughout the year, but the purchase of enough calculators will allow us to check them out when a student has to be excluded. Right now, only the math classes have calculators, and this will also allow us to have each Study Skills tutorial classroom to have a set for students. The Reading Comprehension Activities are reproducible, well-structured, and broken down into steps that will both develop skills and be easily usable for students who are being facilitated at home through email and Google classroom instruction.
