Flexible seating helps students focus and engagement and opens the classroom to a variety of learning styles. Flexible seating like the stools will allow them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. In turn, this burns more calories and increases metabolism. It helps keep their minds more alert and focused. By enabling them to be more alert and focused they will be able learn based on their specific learning styles. Some students need the structure of a desk while others need more movement in order to better learn. The tables and stools will allow students to stand or sit on a higher chair which encourages them to swing their feet which helps focus. The floor desks will allow them to sit anywhere in the classroom and still have access to a desk in order to write. Flexible seating will allow my students to move around the classroom easier enabling them to work with each other thus building a stronger classroom community. There are many students who are in need of the flexibility to move and sit where they choose can use the lap desks. Allowing students to choose their seating in the classroom will help them focus on their learning, remain focused, encourage meaningful discourse, and help prepare them for high stakes testing.
