Preschool students with autism are expected to learn how to regulate their emotions while at school. With the additional stresses from COVID expectations, they often have a difficult time calming down after feeling anger or frustration. In the classroom, they need materials that help them feel safe and comfortable whenever their emotions escape their control. Calming objects like wiggle cushions and weighted materials help them refocus on themselves and their bodies instead of external input that makes them feel too overwhelmed. These are just some of the important tools we use to help preschool students with autism stay calm and happy as they learn at school.
