I am requesting practice writing boards, roll race activity ramps, acrylic paint and watercolor paper. The Science Standard that my project will address is K.PS2.1A. Plan and conduct investigation to compare the effects of push and pull on an object. Forces and Motions. Science is crucial for students to understand their environment and the changing world around them. Kindergarten is the age group where students explore their world through play and trial and error. For ELA, I will address W.K.1L.K.1a-f, Dictate, draw, and write my opinion and response to text. The magnetic boards will be used for students to practice sentence writing and express their views and opinions in a way that will allow for recognition of their thinking. Providing students with methods of communication in this COVID environment is crucial to their well-being. Individual tools that are easy to sanitize and use allow students to feel equity in contributing to conversations (at a distance) with their peers. The playing field is leveled when students can use illustrations as well as vocabulary to share their thinking. Visual arts are inclusive. Our standards for Kindergarten include using various mediums to express ourselves and our ideas about our world with art. Watercolor paper is sturdy and allows our students to produce a quality product. Acrylic paints are a new medium that mixes colors differently than school supplied Tempra. Due to the COVID protocols students have felt isolated. Fine Arts supports Social and Emotional Learning Standards: Self Awareness, Appreciation for diversity, Regulation of emotions, Communicate and develop relationships with different cultures. All students can communicate with visual arts even when they have not mastered a language. Art also initiates dialogue and opinion, which supports Reading Foundational Skills.
