One of my favorite moments was using the dinosaur number match game. Students were matching numbers to quantities and counting out objects, and it turned into a fun challenge instead of \"work.\" Another group was using the pirate number match game, and they were so excited to \"find the treasure\" by matching correctly. I also incorporated Play-Doh into a counting activity where students rolled and built numbers, which really helped my hands-on learners stay engaged and focused.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, they were immediately excited. They were smiling, asking to play, and couldn't wait to get started. For many of my students, traditional worksheets can feel overwhelming, but these games made math feel approachable and fun. I noticed right away that behaviors decreased and participation increased because the activities were interactive and visually engaging.\r\n\r\nNext, we are continuing to build these skills by rotating the games across different math concepts like addition, number recognition, and basic problem-solving. I am also working on increasing independence by having students follow visual directions to complete the games on their own or with peers. Our goal is to connect these hands-on activities to real-life math skills, helping students feel more confident and successful both in and out of the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1769362071758,"projectUrl":"project/center-base-learning/10021441/","projectTitle":"Center Base Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cortez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9355690_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1699515914780","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9355690"},{"teacherId":9349989,"projectId":9988115,"letterContent":"The items received from this generous donation has made such a fun impact on myself and my students. I love my students' curiosity, resilience, and joy in music making. They are excited to participate, willing to take risks, and eager to try their best. With increased screen time, hands-on, collaborative learning is more important than ever, and the recorder has been the perfect tool for that.\r\n\r\nAt Sun Valley Elementary, each 4th-grader is required to learn the recorder, which aligns with the Nevada Academic Content Standards for Music. Through learning music literacy, accurate pitch and rhythm, and ensemble collaboration, students turn abstract concepts into active learning that builds confidence, creativity, focus, and social-emotional growth. Your generosity helped every student receive their very own recorder, which they earned using \"high paws\" as a reward for following our school values of being safe, respectful, and responsible.\r\n\r\nThe students have done a wonderful job playing many songs, including some challenging ones like Chilili. For their concert, they got to choose whether they wanted to play the recorder, ukulele, or dance. They were proud of their performances, and it was a joy to see them shine. The majority of our families have Latino heritage, and the students and families especially loved this South American song during our concert.\r\n\r\nYour support makes experiences like this possible. THANK YOU for helping our students discover the excitement of making music and giving them the confidence to explore new skills. Your generosity has already made a meaningful difference for my students, especially for the newcomers who are working so hard to build their English reading and writing skills.\r\n\r\nThe new phonics kits have been helpful during small-group instruction. Many of my students need extra support with phonics, and the magnetic phonics kits allow them to physically move letters and sounds while we build words together. This hands-on practice has helped students better understand how sounds connect to letters, and I've already seen growth in their confidence when reading.\r\n\r\nThe learning games, like the sight word and search games, have become a favorite part of our literacy rotations. One moment that stood out was when a group of newcomers worked together to \"swat\" sight words during a game. They were laughing, cheering each other on, and practicing reading at the same time. It turned what could feel like hard work into something fun and engaging.\r\n\r\nMy students are motivated by the reward system your donations made possible. Sometimes a simple change in a writing tool can motivate students. The colorful pens have made writing more exciting, and I've noticed students are more eager to complete their writing activities.\r\n\r\nThe printer toner is also incredibly important because it allows me to continue printing materials, games, GLAD vocab words, and practice sheets. \r\n\r\nBecause of you, my classroom has engaging tools, encouraging rewards, and materials that support my students' learning. This process gave students the opportunity to practice real-world skills such as planning, budgeting, teamwork, and community engagement.\r\n\r\nMy students were also fortunate to expand the reach of this project through an additional $250 donation from WEA.
