Our students love our publications class. The problem is that we just do not have the funding necessary to give them all of the tools and resources to learn how to create great work in the area of publications. The whiteboards we are requesting are going to replace boards that no longer are easy to read. They are worn and hard to erase. The markers, pens, erasers, and poster boards will help us to create art work for the walls of school and inspirational and motivational posters to help our students gain confidence and a positive sense of self-worth. All children deserve a chance at the best education possible. We have great teachers, but the opportunity to receive these art supplies and class materials will greatly aid in the creation of engaging lessons. I teach Publications, and that is the focus of many of the supplies, but I also teach several English Language Arts classes, and my students will flourish if they have the ability to transform the lessons they learn into visual displays that can last for years. ELA RL 7.3 asks students to learn to understand illustrations of literary themes and concepts. We practice that by individual interpretation. ELA SL.7.4 asks students to present claims to support opinions. Students who can present visual evidence they have created through illustration have been shown to understand the information more completely, and therefore present it in a more clear and engaging manner. Most important, an environment and culture of positive motivation has been shown to be one of the greatest factors in educational success. Please approve our project.
