Because motivation is so central to success in reading, it is vital that students have a variety of texts at their reading level to choose from for independent reading. Seeing themselves and other diverse people reflected in their reading materials is also important for young readers. Support this project to help build a diverse library of leveled texts for elementary students in Southeast Oakland! If funded, this project will enable the purchase of a wide selection of diverse and high-interest texts from kinder and 1st grade through upper elementary reading levels. Providing students with a leveled library will enable them to finally find books that fit their interests and reading levels so they can engage in the practice necessary to grow as readers, both at school and home.
