We're a small, diverse, low income district who struggle to engage students in school. A large portion of our population does not feel connected to school and the community within. Many of these students do not have internal or external motivation to try in school and are disengaged from their education. The eSports gaming team provides students the opportunity to feel they are a part of the school community through gaming. These 5 computers will be used for our eSports gaming club. Gaming has evolved from a singular activity to one that creates community. Students with like interests can come together, make friends and connections, develop their skills, and share what they know with others in a safe, supportive school environment. Studies show that students who are involved in at least one extracurricular activity show improved academic performance, higher self-esteem, and improved social skills. Our goal is to provide an opportunity for students who might be more introverted, have little to no interest in traditional sports, or who cannot participate in contact sports for whatever reason.
