Some students come to me crying and no one knows why most of the time since they can not communicate with words. I always give them some kind of sensory item to help reset their sensory system. Once they have calmed, a timer is set and allows them to collect themselves to continue their day. Its extremely hard for my students to communicate and sensory play always opens the door into their world and allows me to join them. Some students work so hard in speech and language therapy, I can't send them to their classroom right away, I need to give them some sensory time to lower their energy and frustration levels.
